who, me?

Jasmin Prophete (they/them) is a Caribbean-American screenwriter and filmmaker based between New York and Los Angeles. As a second-generation immigrant, they spent their entire life convinced they’d have to become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer until a poem they wrote in 7th grade won them admission into film school. Thank you affirmative action. Now, Jasmin specializes in epilogues, and enjoys penning narratives that revolve around the healing that comes after surviving adversity. Their work often centers queer and trans stories, urban politics, and families – both found and inherited. Entering the entertainment industry with an extensive background in social justice work, they are instinctively drawn to challenging and surprising stories about marginalized communities and liberation.

Jasmin’s film and TV scripts have placed at screenwriting competitions including the PAGE Screenplay Awards, Nashville Film Festival, and Nantucket Film Festival. They are a 2024 alumni of the Scope of Work Fellowship. Their upcoming proof-of-concept short, “Zonbi,” placed as a top 13 finalist for the 2025 Tribeca and Chanel Through Her Lens Women’s Filmmaker Program. Recently, they have completed work on their thesis short film, “Leo Lets It Rain,” which will soon begin its festival run.

Jasmin holds a BFA from NYU Tisch in Dramatic Writing and Social & Cultural Analysis.
